4 tips for a Stress-Free CHristmas

With all the decorating, gift-giving and meal preparations, Christmas can start to feel like work instead of a holiday for many people. Here are some 4 helpful tips to get you through the Christmas season with grace and ease.

Make yourself a priority

Before committing to any invitations this Christmas holiday, make plans to give yourself time to relax. Creating this healthy boundary of how you spend your time is beneficial for your mental and emotional wellbeing. Allowing yourself to take that break, get that massage or watch that movie will help you get through the Christmas season calmer and more centered.

Mindful eating

The holidays can be a great time to recapture the joy of eating. However, we might end up overeating which can lead to self-judgement which adds more stress to our lives. One way to overcome this is to practise mindful eating. Notice colours, textures and aromas of your food, take in all the flavours that you are putting into your mouth. Feel appreciation for everything that has contributed to the food on your plate.

Practise gratitude

Gratitude is the act of being thankful for what you have and appreciating the simple pleasures in life. Practising gratitude helps us to be joyful, puts things into perspective and lessens stress and anxiety.

Let go of expectations

During Christmas, people get stuck on the idea of traditions and customs. It’s a great time now to think about some of the expectations we have of ourselves and others over the holidays and decide what practices are meaningful and supportive for you.
